How to Create Harmony, Peace, and Health No Matter What Remedies the Feng Shui Doc (or God) Prescribes by Gloria Ng the Feng Shui Gal Feng shui may seem to be a religion. I have seen a number of feng shui cures and remedies that people seem to clutter up their homes religiously, from red ink on yellow paper that reminds me of the kind that I see in some Chinese Buddhist temples to different Buddhist deities like the Laughing Buddha and Kuan Yin the Goddess of Mercy in a corner of the home. I have also seen a number of acolytes seem to follow feng shui cures and remedies with a compass and swear by its use, even so far as to relate different sectors of the house to relationships and wealth! Yet, there is also an increasing number of feng shui cures and remedies that have no ties to Chinese culture nor any religious significance toward Buddhism, such as the use of gemstones and crystals in different corners of a room and rearranging modern everyday secular furniture around. So why is there such a big range of feng shui applications? Let's get to the root of feng shui to find the answer. Basically, feng shui is about energy flow. Feng shui is about energy flow in the mind. By using feng shui, we change our mental processing by using repetition. This repetition serves to produce concentration and focus for what we desire in our lives, just as how some people are utilizing the Law of Attraction. The example about the red ink on yellow paper is no different from an affirmation written in any language on any piece of inkable surface (e.g., paper, cloth, mirror, etc.). Whenever we see this piece of paper or article, we recognize what we are using this item for. The repeated visual serves as a reminder to ourselves about what we are changing in our lives. The item serves as a visual shortcut to a mental thought process evolution. Feng shui is also about energy flow in the environment. The examples of the Laughing Buddha and the Goddess of Mercy serve as objects in one's environment. These examples are also no different than putting a load of crystals and gemstones in one's environment. These objects serve as anchors within one's environment, again as visual shortcuts to add to that which we are desiring to change in our lives. We use objects in our environment to ultimately serve ourselves and our intentions. In addition, feng shui is definitely connected to the energy flow of the planet. Although there are people who choose to use the Tibetan approach to feng shui looking at different corners of a home and there are also people who look at the different cardinal and intercardinal directions of a compass to determine the best feng shui energy, there is actually validity to why people use these methods. Let me put it this way: the sun will always rise east and warm up the whole planet to make plants grow. Is it any surprise that so many ancient cultures deified the sun or the direction east for that matter? In the Northern hemisphere, in a cold uninsulated house with single pane windows, there is just no way you can convince me to place my bedroom in the northernmost sector of the house. There is just no way that the sun can get to it. I will be freezing cold or have ultra-high electricity bills. In this recession economy, high utility bills is not an option. So would I expect abundance or cash flow if I place my bedroom in this sector of the house? Frankly, no. So is feng shui a religion? Nope. Feng shui is a common-sense approach to practical matters. With that said, though, if a feng shui master says that such-and-such must be done in a one-size-fits-all solution, then I would most likely pose the question: “What purpose would this feng shui remedy fulfill?” Then, based on my existing resources, I will find a solution that is fit for me. You may hear a lot of proponents who advocate “emptying the mind.” This is an excellent step for those of us who get bombarded with information, ideas, feelings, dreams—not even necessarily our own! At best, though, emptying our minds is an intermediate step to what we really want to use our minds for. Our mind is our best ally in getting things dones.
Our mind is like water. In feng shui, water only has two directions: upward or downward flow. When water is stuck or stagnant or just sits around in neutral gear, it invites a whole bunch of critters, muck, and sewage. It starts to develop a dark color, a foul smell, and more unpleasantness. That I show nature works. . .unless we interfere with a couple drops of bleach to purify that water. So in feng shui, we don’t like stagnant water.
Even with our minds, then, we do not desire to treat it with stillness or stagnancy, which often results when we empty our minds. Although this stillness can offer us a temporary feeling of inner peace and calm, this is but a respite for where we desire to go and what we desire to achieve.
We do not want our minds to go on a downward spiral either. We start to travel on a downward spiral when our minds focus on nagging doubts, worries, fears, anger, bitterness, regret, resentment, and other routes that cloud us from our greatness. Before one potentially downward spiraling thought cascades into another downward spiraling thought, we need to be able to stop and refocus on how to create an upward flow, how to create value from the downward spiraling thoughts we are facing.
In actuality, we want our minds to be generators, creators, manifesters. Instead of being in the passenger seat of a roller coaster, we need to be the driver. Ultimately, we need to be the master of our mind. We need to teach our mind that it does not rule us but is our powerful ally.
One of the best ways to tap into this power is to notice what excites you, notice what brings you passion and joy. Tap into your heart, and then use your mind to follow your heart. Notice that as you focus on what brings you fulfillment, your mind focuses on how to create more of it. When you tune into this different frequency, like you would when you select a radio station, you get to choose to play and replay what you desire.
This is such a powerful technique that goes way beyond emptying your mind and way beyond clearing mental clutter. In fact, you are participating in the process of creation. You become so much more productive. Practically speaking, I stopped focusing my mind on dieting and losing weight. Instead, I focused on activities I enjoyed doing, such as walking and bike riding. Instead of cutting out foods I wanted to eliminate from my diet, I just added juicy delectable colorful salads with edible wildflowers and a nice freshly-harvested glass of rosemary-lavender lemonade to my meals. Cheers to that!

We now live in a world where the existence of the world-wide web is fast encroaching on more and more of the populous. Wherever we go we may get bombarded with some form of media, whether it is the internet or billboards or other form of advertisement. Unless we live in a rural area or travel to a place where an embargo is being imposed, we have a high likelihood of being exposed to media. Your choice to expose yourself becomes limited. Your attention scatters. At best, you operate through some mental fog. In this case, feng shui can help to clear the mental clutter that can accumulate from such exposure.
In our digital age, blogs and other information media do play a part in feng shui for the mind. We have internet browsers that have bookmark features. We have more than enough storage space for our email addresses. We have search engines to find anything that we desire to learn about. More and more information is available for download as well as for sale. Not only that, we have access to higher storage capacities for electronic files. With the advent of automation, we can also subscribe to multiple email listserves without even opening them due to lack of time to read the contents.
I likewise have fallen into this category of information stockpiling. I have a a whole week's worth of reference in my computer that is way beyond what I can accomplish in reading, viewing, or listening to, even if I did not schedule to sleep at all. Even now, I have yet to go through this whole library of information.
One way to use feng shui principles to simplify your information diet is to schedule some time each week to actually read or review the information, determine its future usefulness, and then clean it off your computer. What I like to do now is to bookmark links. When I have leisure time, I check in with myself to see what I really want to brush up on and go visit the link. The beauty of email, too, is that you can filter your incoming emails so that certain ezine publications go into certain inboxes. You can later revisit these emails at a later time. What is also convenient about this approach is that you can do research with the search function in most email servers.

I went to an elder's place to get some guidance one time. She lives in a senior citizen apartment complex. The view from her apartment was quite grand. I could see the lay of the land from where she lived. Her living room space, although small, was very welcoming. The exquisite couch was plush and soft cushions lay in abundance. The sturdy living room cabinet was a fancy dark lacquer. The plants by the cabinet were voluptuous and vibrant. The décor immediately set me back to another time period. I marveled at how splendid her oasis was.
As we continued to talk, she proceeded to serve me various samples of tasty Japanese delicacies on a small dish. Partway through my taste-testing, I started to notice my hands were getting wet. Even droplets were falling onto my coat and lap. The dish had a small lengthwise crack in it. She gave me paper towel to soak it up and also covered up with a comment about how the dish was very special and had come in a collection she treasured. Noticing the crack, I even wondered how the plate stayed together. Although the plate was quite antique and fit the ambience of the environment, the crack betrayed its companions and made it look out of place. Although the facade portrayed by the environment and her clothing indicated otherwise, I started wondering about her health.
Let's face it. If something is broken, no matter how treasured it is, why use it? The danger of chipped plates, bowls, and cups is that it's not just that it has a chip. Many of the ceramics these days are partially made of lead. Not only that, every time you eat from such ware, you will be taking energy to notice where the chip is, how to avoid it, and also how to handle it in such a way that it still becomes clean and dry after usage. This energy drain can be very subtle, especially after we get used to doing certain things in certain ways and just overlook something as seemingly small and insignificant as a broken plate. Even worse is if the item that is broken is something that is treasured. How many times would you actually remember the good times that this item brought without thinking about how it got broken, when it got broken, and why you still have it? That is a lot of time and energy loss.
So the immediate action item to get to right now is: Chuck it. Dump it. Find a way to recycle it. If it is ceramics, there are creative reuses. I have even heard of this center that accepts toilet bowls, smash them into bits, and put them into a tumbler to make pieces of mosaic art kits. If finding one near you is going to keep that pile of broken stuff in your apartment or garage for another couple months, then just put it in the trash and have it collected by the end of next week.
This chucking method goes for anything that stops working or stops working well, too. This may show up as clocks that stop working, smoke alarms that need replacement batteries, phone chargers that don't work as efficiently anymore, etc. Taking to time to eliminate these broken or rustily working items will definitely help you plug up this energy leak and lead to better overall health and vitality.
