We may face situations in life sometimes that go beyond what we have experienced and definitely beyond what we expected. We all have different coping mechanisms as well. Sometimes the situations we encounter go beyond our coping skills. One way I respond to new information is by taking a breather.
When I face situations and choices that overwhelm and stop me in my tracks, I get so fatigued my mind goes in circles and further drains my energy reserves. Circulatory thoughts would include pointing fingers, complaints, defeatist attitudes, and other kinds of downward spiraling negativity. In fact, at times, I would be so exhausted that I can’t even think, PERIOD. I would feel so zapped of vitality that I just stare off into space with dry eyes and a zombie look. I would be so tapped that I would not even want to call anybody or be around anyone. Sound familiar?
In this kind of situation, the best remedy to recover is actually taking a nice long refreshing nap or just going to bed. I often wake up more refreshed and with a clearer focus. If anything, I have a mind space that is more free. Although the situation is the same, at least I have some distance from it as well as new energy to face it.
Some people may find it useful to write down a question in a journal next to their bed. I know when I first seriously considered whether to go back to school or not for a teaching credential as a new homeowner, the deadline for registration was in the next few days. I had been going back and forth in my head with indecision, which I had already been doing for months before and definitely in the weeks looming toward the registration deadline.
Now within days of the deadline, I chose to shove my ambivalence aside and set the question to my brain: Is it for the highest good of all humanity for me to enroll in this teaching credential program right now? Having clarified my intention for bed rest, I went to sleep and had a powerful dream that answered my question. The very next day, I put in my application.

I remember a college professor showing us a video about paradigm shifts. In the video, we were shown quite quickly a deck of cards that were being placed, one card at a time in front of the camera. The teaser was: the viewer needed to notice anything that might have been out of the ordinary. The whole class watched, stumped. The second time the cards were placed, they were placed even slower. Still nothing that triggered contestation. Finally, the person in the video placed the cards one by one. We were then able to see that even though the cards did have their Ace, King, Queen, Jack and so forth, the shapes were differently colored: we saw diamonds that were black, for example. What I learned from this video is that when we are trained to see and think in certain ways, it is very difficult to see and think beyond the ways we have been trained.
Notice that where you focus your attention is what impresses you and continues to grow. You are the only person who can allow such growth. So if you desire to completely shift and make some major changes in your life, all it takes to begin with is to shift your focus, shift your attention. For example, a person in my faith community thought that no one in her suburban neighborhood would hire her because she was black. As she drew on her spiritual practice, she realized that because she is black, folks will remember her and hire her. This shift in focus made the difference in her self-employment.
Although some of us may have a daily spiritual practice to draw upon, others of us may not. One way of redirecting your focus with what you already have is to immediately shift your attention to your body. When you find yourself in a situation where you are wondering if you are going to make the best choice for yourself, notice how you feel in your body. Do you feel uplifted? Do you feel inspired to break through? Do you know that this action is what you need to take in order to move on to the next level? Or does the situation seem strangely familiar and you know what road it would lead you down already?
When you catch yourself, especially when you notice your brain just starting to repeat the same things over and over again, that moment is priceless. When you stop the wheels of your brain from turning the way it is used to turning, you then become free to create new choices and move in new directions. Tuning into how you feel and how your body feels is the best way to catch yourself and redirect your will.

As a feng shui practitioner, one of the things I immediately notice about people is their capacity to manage their energy. People who are tapped need to draw their energy from outside themselves. People who are even-tempered with their energy don't need to draw energy from outside nor do they give off any energy from within. People who have abundant energy are those that can source their energy and have plenty to share with other people. So I have concluded that there are 3 kinds of human energetics: energy drainers, energy balancers and energy sharers.
Where you are on the scale of human energetics differs from moment to moment, person to person. We each have predominant tendencies, though. Feng shui is about how to maximize our energy and be able to also impact the people and the environment around us. Thus, a necessary evolution is to be able to be at least an energy balancer who can selectively choose how to draw in energy and how to offer energy. The ultimate evolution is being able to be energy sharers who can create lasting influences in our communities and vicinities.
Feng shui for your body means improving your body's capacity to increase, retain, and sustain greater life force energy. You may think that you need to have a certain weight or caloric intake or amount of exercise to have a radiant glow to yourself. Maybe you also fathomed that the amount of water you drink and the amount of beauty rest you have might have something to do with it. Face creams, energy drinks, special vitamins, or other extraordinarily rare bath and body products might get into the mix, too. These are all superficial and temporary means of sourcing energy.
To be able to be a vessel of lasting energetic changes, you need to source abundance. A person who is energy rich has plenty to allow to flow around. One of the best ways to advertise your ability to be abundance itself and allow abundance in your life is to be IN your body, moving and feeling the whole volume of your body. Allow yourself to feel every pore dancing and breathing with you. Feel the sensation of hair on your scalp, your skin, your ear lobe. Notice the bounty of energy you already have within you.
It is said that every person has enough atoms in a thumbnail to create an atomic bomb. We are huge reserves of bountiful energy. When you pay attention to the bounty you are, the universe also pays attention. The more plentitude you notice, the more plentitude you feel. This is ABSOLUTELY FREE! The more you can source this feeling for yourself, the closer you get to sourcing being an energy balancer and the more advanced you get on your feng shui human energetics evolution. When you source this feeling for yourself, independent of anything and anyone, the more empowered you are to truly live and come from an experience of abundance. This is the source of radical abundance. This is true feng shui human energetics revolution.

A lot of times when people think of feng shui, they immediately think of the environment. They don't often think of themselves nor their bodies. What good does it do you if your environment looks good but you don't even feel that way? I walked into a restaurant for dinner one night. There were no customers. Every table was decked out with black marble. Every chair had solid wooden backs and dark cushions to give a cushy back and seat for your tush. Yet, the people there seemed to have very little energy, as if they were working very hard for very little income. The #1 thing that feng shui needs to measure in terms of benefit is how the people benefit. Let's take a look at your actual physical human body then.
Feng shui for your body means being able to allow life force to circulate through you. One of my feng shui clients is a very uptight person. You walk into her home and she doesn’t want you to touch anything! She has had it perfectly “feng shuied,” whatever that means.... Feng shui is moving energy, not stagnant or stuck or the same at any moment. When I look at this client's body, I almost want to wince, because I see how stocky her movements are and how rigid she holds herself and that totally betrays her inner beauty and potential. She has, of course, improved her ability to be flexible and dance with feng shui energy.
What made a difference was this one suggestion: MASSAGE. Massage is really good for the body. It improves blood circulation. It allows you to relax. Your mind clears up. Your pores open more. You even feel a sense of lightness and spaciousness—exactly what energy LOVES. Energy loves having room to move and flow.
When we contract or become rigid, energy meets up with blockages or “traffic jams” in the body. We start to feel cranky. We hear lots of squeaks and cracks. We start to feel uncomfortable in our bodies. Our mind space clouds up, too, with questions and perhaps worries about whether to get check-ups or chiropractic. Ultimately, we start to feel tension and even pain. So treat yourself to a massage.
One last note: Make sure you employ a professional massage therapist. Interview around. Trust your intuition. In a professional massage, your whole body is draped from your neck down and only undraped for massage on your extremities (arms and legs). Some forms of massage, if they actively work on your undraped belly, would definitely keep your breasts draped. Remember that you are the person paying for the massage. You can communicate to your practitioner about whether you want your hair, face, belly, or feet touched and what kind of pressure and room temperature you prefer. Be sure to let your practitioner know of current injuries or medications. Always trust your intuition, not just a good first impression. If you don’t feel something is quite right even in your second or third interaction with someone, don’t doubt yourself. You can always change your mind, communicate, and remove yourself from the situation.
