Green is a great color to add to any start-up venture or activity. It gives a fresh boost of energy and vitality. One of the great advantages of having such a color in your palette is that you have the whole plant kingdom to welcome into your domain beyond your wardrobe.
The bounty of plants available for your choosing can be quite overwhelming or confusing at times. I made the mistake of welcoming too many plants in at the same time and not growing my capacity to care for them in stages. So every time I walked past the wilting plants, I found my energy plummeting, not to mention my thought process already harking on beating myself up on doing such a bad job in watering the plants.
If you know that even one plant in your space is a significant step forward, then be brave and courageous in taking that one step. Take time to get to know the plant, to care for it, to notice how it does over the cycle of a day, a month, a season, etc. What I love about the seasonal Christmas cactus is that it only blooms one season a year. The rest of the time, it is quite easy to care for. After a time, when you notice that you have taken good care of a plant and that it indeed is thriving, then you may look around and choose the next member to add to your family of plants.
If you are hardly a green thumb at all and can barely keep up with watering another plant, much less keeping yourself hydrated, then I would suggest starting out with a succulent. Succulent plants store water very well even in indirect sunlight. One particular plant I would recommend is the jade plant, because its leaves almost look like coins growing off a small tree. This plant is a very hardy indoor plant and the shape of its leaves even indicates abundance.
So start small, even with just one plant in your environment. Watch out for including too much greenery at a time. Be mindful of how capable you are of caring for a live plant. Do you have the energy, the resources, or the time to upkeep your little ones? Feng shui is about healthy abundant live energy. Wilting plants does not fall into that category!

When color inclusion becomes color intrusion is when you put the brakes on and scoot to let someone else have some of the color. One thing to watch out for when embracing a new color is not to have it completely smother you in your environment. Your wardrobe is one thing. Your walls, the carpet, the rug, the desk, the bedsheet, the curtains, etc. are another! So if you are including green as a color to make a fresh start on a creative project or enterprise, then make sure you have a strategically implement the color in your surroundings. Let's not have the predicament of your friends having to start calling your room the “Green Room” or your house the “Green House!” Remember that green is just the start of something and is not the end all or be all in feng shui color energetics. (More on these color energetics in a future article.)
The #1 Rule of Thumb of Feng Shui Color Energetics: Be strategic about how you choose to include a color—in other words, just choose one thing. For example, I only have ONE green item in my office. This green item has shown up in my dreams, in my guided visualizations, and had finally showed up “in person.” As soon as it showed up in person, I knew it was mine. Just start with one thing—yes, just one!
The #2 Rule of Thumb of Feng Shui Color Energetics: Be TMI—touched, moved, and inspired. Every time I look at this one item in my office, I feel joyful, delighted and inspired. I just want to go over to hug and kiss and nuzzle. I immediately feel a heart connection and tingly all inside. Even my belly warms up.
The #3 Rule of Thumb of Feng Shui Color Energetics: Be called home. As soon as you see this item, you must already know that it is yours. I found my one item when I went to a “stuff swap party,” where people just show up with stuff that they’re done with, forage through the pooled collection of stuff, and go home with their new stuff. I had been sitting around chatting and in came this big, cuddly, huggy, bright, almost-neon-green, stuffed frog with darker green polka dots, a fluffy purple collar and huge yellow eyeballs with black irises. As if she fretted there would be no takers and that she would have to go home with it again, the gal who brought him in even started modeling how each of his paws on the underside had wrist straps you could wear so that he actually hugs you or you could lean back on him as a half chair when seated on the carpet. Well, she did not have to convince me. I knew the moment I saw him, he was mine—and I had already known he was a he. (It turned out that this gal's brother had commissioned a male artist to custom-make this frog; thus, the masculine energy I immediately detected.)
So back to including new colors in your environment with the three rules of thumb in feng shui color energetics: If anything, just choose one thing that really inspires, moves or touches you, something that is already yours as soon as you see it. Over the years, I have seen people overdo it when they make new changes. This can be short of disaster when you do so with your wardrobe. Remember that feng shui is about different elements being in balance. If you overdo the scale of elemental balance, then something will be affected and become imbalanced. If you actually know what you are doing because you have consulted with a feng shui expert, then you know you can only overdo it for a certain period of time in specific circumstances. Since green is about fresh new shoots of energy boost in your life, since we also live in a real world that is mindful of budgets, let's look at how you can incorporate that green color in your wardrobe with the wardrobe that you already have.
Besides the obvious way of actually including green in your wardrobe, such as purchasing a suit or an article of clothing, here are some ways you can accessorize:
1. Use a scarf. This is a great addition for spring. Some folks even wear a touch of green in the days immediately following the Winter Solstice, as a way to affirm the birth of the sun again and the re-lengthening of the days ahead. (Just in case you are wondering, we will get more into seasons and feng shui in a future article.)
2. Use earrings. This is a great way to add a punch to any occasion to spice things up just a bit. Earrings go really well for people who also have green eyes. It won't matter what time of year you wear these darlings. Even better if they match and draw attention to your eyes, since you want the eye contact when you speak of your innovation. If you're into makeup as well, this is a good time to also have a little bit of it on that also matches the color of your eyes.
3. Wear bracelets and/or rings, especially on your right arm so that the person's hand you shake will notice a sparkle of green.
4. Wear a pendant and/or necklace. This is a very beautiful combination to wear when you are invited to a more formal event, where you can shed your warm coat and walk or sit around to chat with people.
5. Wear a belt or shawl. The belt would go really well with a dress suit. The shawl is timely for autumn or winter, perhaps even in the first few chilly weeks of spring.
6. Have a handbag and/or matching color shoes. If you use both as a duo, they complement each other very well. Even if you have one and not the other, you can still play with this.
7. Use spectacles or other eyewear. This is fantastic for creative artists. I have seen some sparkly rims without the lens on some very happy campy actresses!
Most importantly, enjoy what you are doing. If you are feeling awkward, scrap it. If you are feeling borderline excited, then you are on track to trying on some of these new accessories. Trust yourself!!! Fondly, Gloria P.S. You can check out even more of my feng shui energy success tips at http://fengshuigal.com/secret

Green is the color of major monetary bills in the United States. Green is also the color that can help you with venture start-ups and creative innovative expressions. What this means is that you can also benefit as an artist. If you are a writer, a painter, an artist, a sculptor, anything you consider to be a creative gift of yours, then you can benefit from this color.
Now that you know you may do very well to add a dose of green to your wardrobe, let's get even more specific. Am I suggesting an overdose of green in your wardrobe? Nope. Just include the color when you go to venture capital meetings, artistic functions, non-profit start-up strategy sessions, or other kind of start-up or creative gatherings.
Feng shui is an art form. Thus, I am also speaking to the artists who are seeking to utilize this color. Take this color with you. Wear it, accessorize with it. You may be heading off to an art reception, a photography exhibition, a meeting with a curator, or a circus after party. I can already see a big question mark some artists may be asking: besides just feeling it, what kind of green shall I wear? Let's get a little bit more specific then.
A dark foresty green may be a wonderful hue for rich, lustrous, steeped, drenched, deep, dormant, latent, saturated activity. Perhaps you are still in the womb emerging with your dream, exploring what is possible, inquiring about what direction you’d like to take, or maybe even developing a new form of your work. For example, one ceramicist started exploring adding glass to her clay art even in the oven! Interestingly enough, her first pieces were of blue-green rivers with lush dark lily pads. If it does not show up on your person, it may show up in your art!
A light lime green could be great for more expressive, buoyant, uplifting, cheerful, boisterous, bright, joyful, exuberant activity. Perhaps you are in a creative phase where you ready to share what you are up to, display your gifts and talents, communicate proudly of your achievements and accomplishments with many different people. This kind of green is excellent for spotlight presentations and other center stage showcase opportunities. This green is definitely about being in the public eye. Definitely make sure that the color compliments your look, your tone, your composition.
Only a tint of green, such as a pastel green, may indicate more sophistication and refinement in that you’ve already established yourself and you’re sure of yourself in your field. In fact, your confidence exudes beyond the color itself and you have the aura of being a leading expert or specialist in your chosen area.
Of course, there are more shades and hues of greens to play with. Explore what happens when you put different greens on. Check it out with your friends, family, and colleagues. Experiment! Most importantly, have fun!
