Few partnerships have tested me as strongly as my second boyfriend did. His absence or departure from our relationship and our past financial investment in a house was what allowed me to bust the lid of possibility for myself. I worked so hard. I got so sick so frequently. I cried so often. I was so angry, so bitter, so resentful. Vindictive thoughts visited and haunted me, although I knew they were not me. Every time, every day, I knew the work had to be done. I had to set aside my inner battle to take care of myself and my situation—the outer battle. I also had to learn to rise above the pit of despair and hopelessness. I had to refresh and renew my faith in myself and the goodness of humankind. Dealing with these ramifications sans children allowed me to connect with my grandmother on a heart level that transcends time, place, and logic. I also purified and cleansed so many toxic notions of romantic relationships/expectations that I became very clear about intimate partnership and later met my true life mate with whom I can create and build a future, including bearing and raising children.
